Classical
Music
New Orleans has great
entertainment for those that like
the finer things in life.
Visitors and tourists alike will
find great places to listen to
their classical pieces while
basking in the essence of what is
"New Orleans".
The
Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra
305 Baronne Street, Suite 600
(504)523-6530
In
September 1991, the New Orleans
Symphony disbanded. An apparent
lack of support for classical
music in New Orleans and an
overwhelming problem of
mismanagement forced the symphony
to stop performing after 55 years.
Many musicians leftover from the
New Orleans Symphony, however,
still had faith in the thriving
existence of an orchestra in New
Orleans. They held a last ditch
effort gala concert in one of the
city’s largest performing halls…they
sold it out and played to rave
reviews. This new orchestra was
deemed: The Louisiana Philharmonic
Orchestra.
The
LPO is one of a kind. It is owned
and managed by its member
musicians. Since 1991, the LPO has
become on of the most respected
orchestras in the country.
Recently the LPO has sold-out
almost every concert in New
Orleans. Highlights of these shows
include the Beethoven and Blue
Jeans series with excellent
adaptations of Beethovens 5th
and 9th symphonies. The
classics concerts series includes
many legendary works from the
likes of Tchaikovsky, Brahms,
Shostakovich, and Strauss to name
a few. The LPO will captivate you
on any night, so be sure to see
them while you’re in the Big
Easy.
